MEMEME
OVERVIEW
mememe
Mememe is an online interactive quiz that generates your own personalized 3D character based on your personality and quirks. In a time when people have been slowly losing touch with their personal interactions with their communities, mememe aims to reconnect these bonds by creating memorable and share-worthy characters who are fun and unique just like us.

PROBLEM SPACE
The Problem
People have been slowly losing touch with their personal interactions within their communities from quarantine. How can we naturally and easily reconnect these bonds?
The Solution
Mememe is an web application that aims to reconnect these bonds by creating memorable and share-worthy characters who are fun and unique just like us.
Research
Pre-Research & Competitive Analysis
Adobe Imagination Machine
I encountered this interactive experience at VidCon 2019, and I was inspired by how numerous people easily identified themselves as their chosen character and quickly immersed themselves to the experience.
Notable Qualities:
Immersive mixed reality
Limited # of characters
Documentation to share
FonFon & Flower Test
In the past few years, I’ve seen a Korean survey trend that has been circling my social circle. These easily shareable links require people to take a basic quiz and find a 2d illustrated character (ex: animal, flower).
Notable Qualities:
Basic questions/survey
Description of the characters
Documentation and link to share
Key Insights
There is an audience of people who desire to identify/relate to characters
Documentation and easily shareable links/screenshots are key for social interaction
IDEATION
Questionnaire Brainstorm
I began brainstorming with the question: What do you identify yourself with?
Character Design
I wanted mememe to differentiate itself from the current surveys available with a very limited number of characters, 2d design, and similar questions. My solution was a create a character generator, in which each 3d body part and color represent a answer from the question.
Previous Versions:
Through receiving feedback on multiple versions, these were the resulted body parts that can create up to 8000 different characters:
Survey
To better understand my audience, I created a simple prototype using a questionnaire form that displays a 2d version character from a limited set.
After I created a feedback survey, asking questions about the quality of questions, diversity of characters, and “share-ability” of the experience.
Overall Feedback
Needs more personal questions for connection
Breathe in life to characters
Add animation or micro interaction during the quiz and after the reveal
Design Principles
After the ideation stage and receiving feedback, I narrowed down 4 design principles for this experience:
Immersion: Using micro-interactions for users to feel more engaged during the experience.
Identity: Allowing users to fully connect with their character after the reveal.
Agency: Giving users the feeling of control over their choices- their decisions matter.
FINAL DESIGNS
Iterations
After 3 rounds of testing the high fidelity mockup, these were the resulted changes in the experience:
More micro-interaction using sound effects and animation for user engagement
Additional animation to stay entertained during the questionnaire and grow anticipation for the character
Free response questions and more personal questions for the user to feel agency and connection to the character
